Hello everyone! I recently had a chance to do some work during a teacher work day. One of the pieces of feedback that we have gotten for our school in general is that teachers are not communicating what students are doing day to day enough. Here's my calendaring for the remainder of the year in math for what we will be working on day by day. The pages column will be filled in each week as I go or during play lesson planning time on the weekends. The work I did on this can be found at the top of the page on the main navigation bar or by clicking here:
I hope this helps shed some light on what students are working on in general within the classroom within the context of the second grade curriculum. Depending on student needs additional differentiation (further challenges or help) are provided as well. In addition to this students will continue to reinforce skills during 30 minute math time as well as practice math concepts after finishing their daily lesson work by playing games created by investigations. Time is one of the primary concepts addressed in 30 minute math. Helping by having your kids practice at home will help immensely though.
We are also doing an intervention group for students whose fluency with basic addition facts isn't quite where we want it yet over the next 6 weeks to help push students further. If your student is not in an intervention group for this (or a few for reading) then we will have them in an enrichment group for this cycle. Enrichment groups will vary depending on the kids and the teacher they are grouped with. Hope this helps shed some light on math that we are currently working on and what's coming up still.
